Colonels Look to Rebound Against Austin Peay

RICHMOND, Ky. – After a tough setback last week at Tennessee State, the Eastern Kentucky University football team returns home on Saturday, Sept. 27 to host Austin Peay. This will be the first meeting between the two schools in Richmond since 1997. Game time is set for 3 p.m.

Both Eastern Kentucky (1-3, 0-1 OVC) and Austin Peay (0-4, 0-1) have struggled to produce points this year. The Colonels are averaging just 14 points per game while the Governors average slightly more at 14.5. Many of EKU’s productive offensive drives have resulted in field goals and not touchdowns. Senior Taylor Long currently leads the league with seven field goals.

Austin Peay starting quarterback Gary Orr suffered a thumb injury last week and will likely not play this Saturday. Governor kick returner Terrence Holt leads the league in all-purpose yards per game (172.8).

The Colonels have defeated Austin Peay in 21 straight meetings dating back to 1977. Only Grambling (31 straight over Prairie View A&M), Tennessee (23 straight over Kentucky) and William & Mary (22 straight over VMI) own longer active winning streaks over a single opponent.
