RICHMOND, Ky. – Eastern Kentucky will attempt to snap a two-game losing skid on Thursday when Jacksonville State visits McBrayer Arena. The Lady Colonels (4-8, 1-3 OVC) dropped a pair of conference road games last weekend. The Gamecocks (3-10, 0-3 OVC) have lost three straight.
Since beating Bluefield State on Dec. 30, EKU has lost at Tennessee State and at Austin Peay.
On Monday, Eastern Kentucky trailed Austin Peay by 21 points at halftime but used a 19-2 run to start the second half to close the gap to four before falling 70-66 in Clarksville, Tenn. Freshman
Kayla Drake led the Lady Colonels with 20 points.
Colette Cole scored 19 points and grabbed seven rebounds.
Nadia Mossong contributed 14 points and a team-best eight rebounds.
Two days after committing 33 turnovers at Tennessee State, Eastern gave the ball away only 19 times against the Lady Govs.
Eastern Kentucky leads the all-time series against Jacksonville State 11-2. The last meeting between the two teams came Feb. 14, 2008. EKU won 104-75 in Jacksonville, Ala. EKU has won four straight and 10 of the last 11 in the series. Eastern is 6-0 in games played against the Gamecocks in Richmond.
Jacksonville State enters Thursday’s game on a three-game losing streak. The Gamecocks last two loses came at home against OVC teams Eastern Illinois and Southeast Missouri State.
JSU averages 54.7 points per game and has only scored more than 60 points twice this year. The Gamecocks have been held under 50 points three times.
Junior Jolie Efezokhae, a 6-foot-1 forward, leads the team in scoring (14.2 ppg) and rebounding (7.5 rpg). Efezokhae is the only Gamecock averaging more than 8.5 points and 4.8 rebounds per game.
Cierra Duhart, a member of last season’s OVC All-Newcomer team as a freshman, has not played this season and is no longer on the team. Last year Duhart averaged 11.2 points and 7.8 rebounds.
As a team, JSU averages 4.5 blocks per game, which is second best in the conference. Efezokhae has blocked 18 shots in 13 games. Paris Hollingsworth has 17 blocks in 11 games.
