RICHMOND, Ky.
– The Eastern Kentucky University football team will try to return to the win column this Saturday against OVC foe UT Martin. The 2009 Homecoming game is set to kick off at 3 p.m.

No. 23 Eastern Kentucky (3-2, 3-1 OVC) needs a win to stay in the hunt for its third straight OVC title. The Colonels are coming off a tough 20-17 setback to Tennessee State last Saturday. EKU gave up a season-high 159 rushing yards against the Tigers. The Colonel offense sputtered at times as well in the Tennessee State game, especially in the first half. Eastern turned the ball over twice and punted on five other possessions in the first 30 minutes of action versus the Tigers.

UT Martin, one of the preseason favorites in the OVC, has dropped two straight league games. The Skyhawks (2-4, 1-2 OVC) fell at home to Tennessee Tech last weekend, 35-28. UTM had two turnovers in the loss, including a fourth quarter interception returned for a touchdown to give Tech a 35-21 cushion. The Skyhawks average 384 yards of offense in OVC games, which ranks second in the league, but also allows 36 points per game to OVC foes.

Eastern Kentucky has never lost to UT Martin, winning all 19 games between the two schools. However, the last two meetings have been decided by a total of five points. The two teams played for the OVC title in the 2008 regular season finale with EKU prevailing thanks to a blocked field goal on the final play of the game, 33-31. Eastern handed UT Martin its only OVC loss in 2006 by a count of 31-28.

Following the game against UT Martin, Eastern Kentucky hits the road to face Austin Peay on Saturday, Oct. 24.
