RICHMOND, Ky. – After playing three of its first four games on the road, the Eastern Kentucky University football team returns home this Saturday to face OVC foe Tennessee State. Kick-off is set for 6 p.m.
No. 16 Eastern Kentucky (3-1, 3-0 OVC) has won 22 of its last 23 conference games dating back to 2006. However, that lone loss came at the hands of Tennessee State (2-3, 1-0 OVC) one year ago. The Tigers ran for 229 yards in that game and held EKU to a season-low nine yards on the ground.
This year, Tennessee State ranks second in the league in rushing at 165 yards per game while the Colonels rank third nationally in rush defense at 52.2 yards per game. EKU held Eastern Illinois to a season-low 44 rushing yards and also tallied seven sacks, the most in two years under head coach Dean Hood.
Tennessee State broke an eight-game losing streak to EKU last year with the 34-20 win. Eastern leads the all-time series by a count of 19-3 and is 11-1 at home versus the Tigers. The two teams first squared off in the 1982 NCAA Division I-AA playoffs with Eastern prevailing in the semifinal round, 13-7.
Following the game against TSU, Eastern Kentucky hosts UT Martin next Saturday as part of Homecoming weekend.
