Western Kentucky Dispatches Colonel Softball

Sophomore Ashley Dollins recorded the only hit for EKU.

AUBURN, Ala. –
In its final game at the Tiger Invitational hosted by Auburn University, Eastern Kentucky fell to Western Kentucky, 13-0, in Auburn, Ala., on Sunday. 

The Hilltoppers (5-2) wasted little time getting on the board. In the top of the first inning, WKU platted three runs on two Eastern Kentucky (1-3) errors. Rachelle Boucher capped the five-run inning with a two-run double to left field.

Terri Ellingsworth drove in two with a single to center in the second inning, part of a three-run inning that put WKU on top 8-0. Western added five more in the fourth and the game ended after the Colonels failed to score in the bottom of the fifth.

Sophomore Ashley Dollins recorded the only hit for EKU. Chelsea Butler (0-1) started for Eastern and suffered the loss after allowing five unearned runs on two hits in one inning.

Ellingsworth and Boucher each finished 2-for-2 with two RBIs for Western Kentucky. Ryan Rogge (3-1) went the distance to earn the win, allowing one hit, no walks and striking out four.

The Colonels will be back in action on Saturday when they begin play at the Georgia State Tournament in Atlanta, Ga. EKU will face Lipscomb at 10 a.m., and Georgia State at 12:15 p.m.
