Game Notes

MARTIN, Tenn. –
Eastern Kentucky will hit the road for the final weekend of the regular season. The Lady Colonels (6-19, 3-13 OVC) will play Tennessee-Martin (2-25, 0-16 OVC) on Thursday at 6:30 p.m. ET. Eastern enters the final weekend still alive for a spot in the eight-team Ohio Valley Conference tournament.

EKU sits a half game behind eighth place Jacksonville State. After facing the Skyhawks on Thursday, Eastern Kentucky will play at Murray State on Saturday. JSU has one game remaining, at home against Tennessee Tech. The Lady Colonels hold their destiny in their own hands. If they win their final two games, they will earn a spot in the OVC tournament.

In its last game, Eastern suffered a 70-48 loss to Morehead State on Saturday at McBrayer Arena. Sophomore Nadia Mossong finished with nine points and 11 rebounds the Lady Colonels. Freshman Kayla Drake also scored nine points.

Eastern Kentucky leads the all-time series with UT Martin, 28-10. The last meeting came on Dec. 6, 2008, with EKU winning 58-52 in Richmond. The Lady Colonels have won five straight and eight of the last nine against UTM, but Eastern is just 10-8 in games played in Martin.

In the first meeting between the two teams, Eastern Kentucky trailed by one early in the second half before out-scoring Tennessee-Martin 17-2 over an eight minute time span en route to the win. Cherie White led the Lady Colonels with 16 points. Phyllisha Mitchell contributed a double-double with 17 points and 14 rebounds for the Skyhawks.

Tennessee-Martin enters the final weekend of the regular season without having won a single conference game. The Skyhawks have lost 15 straight games since beating Northwestern State on Dec. 30.

UTM is led by its senior center Mitchell. She averages 14.6 points and 12.7 rebounds per game. UTM leads the league with an average of 16.2 offensive rebounds per game, due in large part to Mitchell’s 151 offensive boards this season.

Freshman guard Yolonda Davis averages 9.3 points, but turns the ball over an average of 3.6 times per game.

UT Martin is second in the OVC with an average of 33 rebounds per game. The Skyhawks lead the conference in rebound margin at +6.3.
