MURRAY, Ky. – The Eastern Kentucky University men’s basketball team finishes its regular season schedule Saturday evening at Murray State. Tip time is set for 8:30 p.m.
The Colonels (18-11, 10-7 OVC) will be the No. 5 seed in the upcoming OVC tournament. If the Colonels defeat Murray State Saturday, the Racers will be the No. 4 seed and the two teams will play again Tuesday in the OVC quarterfinals. If EKU falls to Murray State, the Colonels will play at either Austin Peay, Morehead State or UT Martin in the OVC quarterfinals.
Murray State (17-11, 12-5 OVC) is one of the hottest teams in the OVC as the Racers have won six straight league games. The Racers can earn a share of the 2008-09 OVC regular season title with a win over EKU and a loss by UT Martin. Murray State is 7-1 at home against OVC opponents and leads the league in scoring defense (62.6 ppg).
EKU has won the last two meetings at Murray State by a combined three points. Senior
Mike Rose hit the game-winning three-pointer at MSU last year with 3.9 seconds left to give the Colonels a 59-58 victory. Murray State leads the all-time series, 90-61.
Following the Murray State game, Eastern Kentucky will be on road Tuesday, March 3, in the first round of the OVC tournament.
