KISSIMMEE, Fla. –
Eastern Kentucky’s softball team suffered a pair of one-run losses today at the Rebel Games. The Colonels (6-8) lost 8-7 to Butler (3-5) and then fell 1-0 to Robert Morris (3-5). Freshman Diane Gallagher went 3-for-7 with two runs, two RBIs and two stolen bases in both games combined.

Butler built a 6-1 lead in the first game before EKU battled back to take the lead. Four of Butler’s first six runs were unearned as the Colonels made three errors in the first three innings.

Gallagher and Pam Webber each drove in a pair of runs as part of a five-run fourth inning that tied the score at 6-6. Kalyn Fox scored on a Bulldog throwing error in the fifth to complete the comeback and give Eastern a 7-6 advantage.

Erin Jackson tied the game for Butler when she scored on a wild pitch in the bottom of the sixth. Erin Flakenberry’s RBI single down the right field line made it a one-run game. Eastern Kentucky got the tying run to second base with one out in the top of the seventh, but couldn’t get the runner home.

In addition to going 1-for-2 with a run and a walk at the plate, Fox pitched two and two-thirds innings. She allowed two unearned runs on four hits. Stacye Toups (4-4) suffered the loss after giving up two runs on one hit in two and two-thirds innings.

Gallagher finished with two hits in four at bats, two runs scored and two RBIs against Butler.

Stacy Davidson’s RBI single in the top of the second inning proved to be the only scoring play of the second game against Robert Morris. RMU’s Alexa Bryson limited EKU to five hits over seven innings while striking out four.

The Colonels will conclude their trip on Wednesday with games against Yale at 1 p.m., and La Salle at 3 p.m.
