CAPE GIRARDEAU, Mo. – Eastern Kentucky built a 3-0 lead but Southeast Missouri State scored four runs over the final three innings to escape with a 4-3 win on Sunday. Jennifer Vasquez singled with the bases loaded and one out in the bottom of the seventh to drive in the winning run for the Redhawks (23-19, 12-8 OVC).
The Colonels (16-23, 7-11 OVC) scored a two runs on a pair of SEMO errors in the first and added a sacrifice fly by
Jena Handley for a 3-0 lead.
Southeast got on the board in the bottom of the fifth with an RBI by Renee Kertz. A double by Elise Sperakos drove in two runs in the sixth and tied the game.
Chelsea Butler started for EKU and allowed one run and one hit in five innings. Six different Eastern players registered one hit.
The Colonels will be back in action on Tuesday when they play a doubleheader at Miami (Ohio), beginning at 3 p.m.
