Two Sign To Play Softball At EKU

RICHMOND, Ky. – Aimee Spathias and Raquel Howes have signed National Letters of Intent (NLI) to play softball at Eastern Kentucky University in 2010, head coach Jane Worthington announced on Friday. Spathias is an outfielder from Glendora, Calif. Howes is a shortstop from Colorado Springs, Colo.

“We are looking forward to adding both of these players to our team,” Worthington said. “Both come with years of summer ball experience which will help them transition nicely to college. Raquel adds power to the lineup and Aimee will be adding speed. I am expecting both to earn a starting position.”

Spathias was a three-time scholar-athlete award winner at Charter Oak High School. She earned all-league honors her junior season after batting .349 with three home runs and 16 RBIs. As a freshman, Spathias posted five home runs and 16 stolen bases. She plans to pursue a degree in business or teaching.

Howes earned first team all-state honors this past season after leading Colorado with 13 home runs. In addition, the team captain and team MVP batted .561 while leading Liberty High School to the Metro League district championship for the second consecutive season.

As a junior, Howes earned all-state recognition after batting .438 with 27 runs scored.
