Rutan Named NFCA First Team All-Region

LOUISVILLE, Ky. - The National Fastpitch Coaches Association released its list of All-Region honors on Thursday afternoon with a Colonel finding her name atop the Mid-Atlantic list.

Maddi Rutan was named First Team All-Region for the Mid-Atlantic in the Utility/Pitcher position. The honor is Rutan's second All-Region award of her career, being named Second Team pitcher for the Central region in the 2024 season.

The two-way star topped the stat sheets both offensively and in the circle for the Colonels. Rutan also ranked within the top five in most categories within the ASUN during the season.

Rutan totaled 227 strikeouts in 176.0 innings pitched, tied for the 11th-most in the NCAA and the first Colonel pitcher with 200 or more strikeouts since 2016. She recorded an 18-10 record as well as two saves in 33 total appearances, allowing an ERA of 2.27 and an opponent batting average of .192. The sophomore also set new career single-game highs in both innings pitched and strikeouts on the season, with 11.0 IP in a complete game against Central Arkansas on Mar. 14 and 15 strikeouts against Austin Peay on Apr. 18.

In the batter's box, Rutan averaged .413 hitting, a slugging percentage of .790, and an on-base percentage of .559. She tied the program single-season record in RBIs with 61 and racked up 13 home runs, 9 doubles, and 3 triples on 59 hits. She also finished the season with a .986 fielding percentage, making 25 appearances at first base when not in the circle.

During the course of the season, Rutan put together a consecutive game on-base streak of 43 games from Feb. 14 to May 2. The streak was the second-longest in the NCAA this season and the third-longest stretching back to the 2024 season. Rutan also broke the program single-game records for RBIs and home runs with 9 RBIs in one game against Bryant on Feb. 14 and 3 home runs against Morehead State on Apr. 2.

Overall, Rutan ranked within the top 100 in Division I in seventeen different categories tracked by the NCAA, with thirteen of those being within the top 50. She finished 11th in strikeouts pitched, 14th in strikeouts-per-seven-innings, and 12th in on-base percentage.
