EKU Hopes to Carry Home Success to Road Games This Weekend

RICHMOND, Ky. – The Eastern Kentucky University men’s basketball team knows it can win at home, but now the Colonels hope to find a winning road formula this weekend with games at Jacksonville State and Tennessee Tech. First up for EKU is Jacksonville State Thursday night at 6:30 p.m.

A win over Jacksonville State would push EKU’s league record to 4-1 for the first time since the 1991-92 season. However, Eastern (10-5, 3-1 OVC) is just 2-5 in games played away from McBrayer Arena. The Colonels average 67.0 points per game, 38.5 percent three-point shooting and 13.6 turnovers per game in those contests compared to 77.6 ppg, 43.9 percent three-point shooting and 7.9 tpg at home

Jacksonville State has lost four straight games to fall to 5-8 overall and 1-2 in the OVC. The Gamecocks are 5-3 at home which includes wins over Tennessee Tech and Georgia Southern. In JSU’s most recent game, guard Trenton Marshall set a Gamecock Division I record with 37 points in a 78-66 loss at Southeast Missouri. Jacksonville State leads the league in free throw shooting (75.6 percent) and ranks second in assists per game (15.9).

Eastern Kentucky leads the all-time series by a slim margin of 7-6, but Jacksonville State has won the last four meetings in Jacksonville including a 75-70 decision last year. The Gamecocks netted a season-high 11 three-pointers in that contest.

Following the Jacksonville State game, EKU concludes the road swing Saturday at Tennessee Tech.
