Colonels Host Undefeated Jacksonville State Saturday Night

RICHMOND, Ky. – The lights will be on at Roy Kidd Stadium Saturday night for a prime time match-up between the Eastern Kentucky University football team and No. 2 Jacksonville State. Wazoo Sports will be televising the game live beginning at 7 p.m.

Active military personnel who show their military ID will receive complimentary admission to the game. All active military and veterans are invited to participate in the halftime presentation honoring Veteran’s Day.

Eastern (3-5, 2-2 OVC) will aim to keep its unblemished home record intact against a team in the hunt for the top seed in the upcoming FCS playoffs. The Colonel defense played one of its best games of the year last week against Murray State. EKU has limited three of its first four OVC opponents to less than 75 yards rushing. However, the Gamecocks average 179 rushing yards per game and a league-high 35.2 points per game.

Jacksonville State (8-0, 5-0) is one of only three remaining undefeated FCS teams and is the highest ranked OVC team since the 1999 season. The Gamecocks have won 12 straight games dating back to last year, including a 34-26 decision over the Colonels in the 2009 season finale. The team’s 12-game winning streak is currently the longest in FCS and second in all of Division I (behind only Boise State). In JSU’s most recent game, the quarterback duo of Marques Ivory and Coty Blanchard each threw two touchdown passes while Jamal Young rushed for 105 of JSU’s 307 yards on the ground in a 56-3 dismantling of Austin Peay on Oct. 23.

Since Jacksonville State joined the Ohio Valley Conference in 2003, the Gamecocks and Colonels have the top two winning percentages in league games – Jacksonville State (47-13, .783) and Eastern Kentucky (46-14, .767).
