RICHMOND, Ky. – Eastern Kentucky can clinch the fourth seed in next week’s Ohio Valley Conference tournament with a victory on Thursday against the Tennessee-Martin. The Lady Colonels (12-14, 8-8 OVC) have already doubled their number of conference victories from last season.
The game, presented by Yellowbook, will tip off at 5:30 p.m.
The top four seeds hosts first round tournament home games. The OVC final four will be held at the Sommet Center in Nashville, Tenn. Despite being picked to finish ninth in the OVC preseason poll, head coach
Chrissy Roberts has her team in fourth place in the conference standings. Last season EKU did not qualify for the conference tournament.

The Lady Colonels are coming off a 79-67 victory over second place Morehead State on Saturday. Freshman
Alex Jones led the team with 34 points and 18 rebounds. She was named OVC Player of the Week and OVC Freshman of the Week on Monday. Freshman
Brittany Coles scored a career-best 18 points and tied her career-high with six rebounds.
Tennessee-Martin has come on strong in February. The Skyhawks are 5-2 in their last seven games. All five wins have come at home. UTM has lost four straight on the road and is 1-6 in OVC road games this season. Last week, UT Martin snapped Eastern Illinois’ 13-game winning streak and gave EIU only its second OVC loss of the season.
Junior newcomer Alecia Weatherly leads the team in scoring (12.8 ppg) and rebounding (5.9 rpg). She has earned OVC Newcomer of the Week honors nine times this season. Freshman Cali Cupples averages 9.8 points. As a team, UTM averages 53.1 points per game, which is ninth out of 10 conference teams. The Skyhawks have allowed 62.3 points per game this season, but just 59.6 points in OVC games.
This is the 41st meeting between the two teams. EKU leads the all-time series 30-10. Eastern is 16-2 against UTM in Richmond. EKU has won seven straight in the series.
In the first meeting this season between the two teams, Jones posted her second straight double-double as Eastern Kentucky escaped with a 56-53 win over Tennessee-Martin on December 5. Jones finished with 12 points and 13 rebounds. Coles finished with 13 points. Senior Colette Cole contributed eight points, four rebounds and three assists.
EKU out-rebounded UT Martin 36-24, but committed 26 turnovers.
Yalonda Davis registered a game-best 17 points for the Skyhawks, but she is no longer on the team. Cupples scored 12 points on four three-pointers.
