RICHMOND, Ky. –
In its first home games of the 2010 season, Eastern Kentucky lost both games of a doubleheader against Western Kentucky on Wednesday at Gertrude Hood Field. The Hilltoppers won the first game 8-0 in five innings and earned a 5-0 victory in game two.

In the first game, three walks contributed to a big second inning for the Hilltoppers (15-9). Brooke Reed’s bases loaded infield single plated the game’s first run. A hit batter and a walk pushed across two more. Ashley Contreras drove in two with a single up the middle. Lindsay Antone’s RBI ground out capped the scoring and staked the visitors to an 8-0 lead.

Jamie Hennis finished with two hits in two at bats and a run for WKU. Kim Wagner (8-3) picked up the win for the Hilltoppers after tossing five innings. She allowed three hits and struck out three batters. Freshman Raquel Howes registered two of EKU’s three hits.

Western Kentucky jumped out quick in the second game as well. Antone drove in a run on a fielder’s choice. Mallorie Sulaski’s ground out allowed Kelsey McCauley to score and make it a 2-0 game after one inning.

WKU added a run on Antone’s sacrifice fly in the fifth. Two more Hilltopper runs in the sixth stretched the lead to 5-0. Karavin Dew went 2-for-3 with a run scored for Western. Antone finished with a pair of RBIs.

Sophomore Diane Gallagher went 2-for-4 for Eastern Kentucky (5-17).

The Colonels will return to action on Saturday when the open Ohio Valley Conference play at Tennessee-Martin. The doubleheader in Martin, Tenn., is scheduled to begin at 2 p.m. ET.
