RICHMOND, Ky. – Eastern Kentucky will host Southeast Missouri State for a three-game conference series this weekend. The teams are scheduled to play a doubleheader Saturday beginning at 1 p.m., and a single game Sunday at 1 p.m., at Gertrude Hood Field.
After last weekend’s two losses to UT Martin, the Colonels record is 5-19 (0-2 OVC). The first game started off well with
Diane Gallagher scoring to give the Colonels a 1-0 lead, however UT Martin responded by scoring four runs in the bottom of the first. EKU scored one more run in the seventh bringing the final score for the first game to 4-2. The second game’s final score was 1-0. UT Martin’s Kate Vanderham scored the only run of the game while following it up by pitching a complete game three-hit shutout. Eastern’s
Kristin Perry allowed one run on four hits to go along with three strikeouts.
Southeast Missouri lost two games against Morehead State leaving their record standing at 9-14 (0-2 OVC). The Redhawks lost the first game by a final score of 9-2. The second game started off well with Southeast Missouri gaining a 5-1 lead but then allowed the Eagles to come back. The second game ended with a final score of 7-5 in favor of MSU.
Eastern Kentucky’s team batting average is .224 and the team has stolen 37 bases. Southeast Missouri’s batting average is .268 and the Redhawks have stolen a total of four bases. Eastern’s team batting average is ranked ninth out of 10 teams in the Ohio Valley Conference. Southeast Missouri is ranked second.
Gallagher leads the Colonels with a .359 batting average, 17 runs, and 24 stolen bases. She has the fifth best average in the OVC and leads the conference in stolen bases.
Raquel Howes leads the Colonels in RBI’s with 14 and Perry leads with four wins.
Nicole Troncoso leads the Redhawks with a .386 batting average. Troncoso ranks third in the OVC for batting average. Renee Kertz leads SEMO with 15 runs batted in. Stefanie Barnes leads the Redhawks in with six wins.
