Softball Faces Morehead State On Wednesday

RICHMOND, Ky. –
Eastern Kentucky's softball team will be going head-to-head against Morehead State for the third time this season on Wednesday at 2:00 p.m., at Gertrude Hood Field.

Eastern Kentucky’s record currently stands at 12-27. In the Ohio Valley Conference, Eastern is 6-7. Morehead State’s record is 19-6 and the Eagles stand at 9-4 in the OVC. Eastern Kentucky is fourth in the standings while Morehead State is tied for second with Eastern Illinois. EKU leads the all-time series with Morehead State, 41-20.

When the teams last met on March 30 in Morehead for a doubleheader, the series was split. The teams exchanged shutouts. MSU won the first game by a score of 2-0. In response, Eastern came back to shut the Eagles out in the second game 5-0.

Sophomore Diane Gallagher is the Colonels’ leader with a batting average of .343, 21 runs scored and 31 stolen bases. Gallagher is ranked first in the OVC for stolen bases and third in the NCAA. Freshman Raquel Howes leads the Colonels with 20 RBIs and has a .289 batting average.

In two of the games against Eastern Illinois last weekend, freshman Kristin Perry allowed two runs total in 15 and a third innings. She struck out 13 batters and had a 0.91 ERA.

Freshman Kayla Ashbrook leads the Eagles with a .293 batting average and 17 runs scored. Amber Riddle has seven home runs and 28 RBIs. Alex Gjevre is 10-8 this season with a 2.32 ERA. Gjevre has 127 strikeouts in 129.2 innings.
