JACKSONVILLE, Ala. – Eastern Kentucky’s softball team lost a pair of games in five innings today at Jacksonville State. The Gamecocks captured game one of the Ohio Valley Conference doubleheader by a score of 8-0. EKU lost the second game 10-2.
In game one, Jacksonville State (22-16, 9-6 OVC) scored four runs in the bottom of the first to take an early lead. Amanda Crow’s three-run home run to left center capped the big inning. The Gamecocks added two more in the bottom of the second. Krystal Ruth’s two-run single in the bottom of the fifth ended the game.
Kelci Johnston, Hillary Downs and Crow each finished with two hits. Downs and Crow also scored two runs. Ashley Eliasson (15-7) went the distance to earn the victory for JSU. She allowed one hit and struck out two.

Melissa Costa accounted for Eastern’s lone hit.
Eastern Kentucky (12-30, 6-10 OVC) trailed 1-0 heading into the bottom of the third inning of the second game when the Gamecocks exploded for four more. Crow’s second home run of the day, a grand slam, did the damage.
The Colonels trailed 8-0 as the game moved into the top of the fifth inning. With two outs and a runner on, freshman
Nikki Bruce sent a ball over the left field fence to draw the visitors to within 8-2. However, Mary Beth Ledbetter led off the bottom of the inning with a home run and Nikki Prier’s two-out RBI double ended the game.
Downs finished 2-for-2 with three runs and three RBIs for JSU. Crow went 2-for-3 and drove in five. Bruce’s second home run of the season was the only hit for Eastern Kentucky.
The Colonels and Gamecocks will end their three-game series on Sunday at 2 p.m. ET.
