RICHMOND, Ky. – Eastern Kentucky fell to Murray State, 5-0, on Saturday in a game shortened by half an inning because of rain. The second game of the doubleheader was postponed. The two teams will play a doubleheader beginning at 11 a.m. ET on Sunday, weather permitting.
Murray State (19-25, 8-9 OVC) used a big first inning to take control. After a lead-off walk, a single and a passed ball, Jenna Bradley doubled to left center to plate the game’s first two runs. A dropped fly ball with the bases loaded allowed another run to score. An RBI ground out by Madi Ratliff made it a 4-0 game. Lauren Buch scored on another passed ball to cap the inning.
Somerset, Ky., native Shelby Kosmecki (4-5) took care of the rest for the Racers. The freshman scattered six hits over six innings while holding the Colonels scoreless. She walked one batter and struck out two.
Kristin Perry came on in relief in the first inning for EKU (12-32, 6-12 OVC). The freshman pitched six and two-thirds innings, allowing two runs on only one hit. She struck out six.
Murray State scored its five runs on only three hits. Three different Racers had one hit each.
Cassi Gibson went 2-for-2 for Eastern Kentucky.
