Men's Tennis Tallies Seventh Straight Win

Sophomore Carles Pons
MARTIN, Tenn. – All six Eastern Kentucky University men’s tennis players won their singles matches in straight sets as the Colonels defeated SIU Edwardsville Saturday, 7-0. EKU has now won seven straight matches to move to 14-8 overall.

Sophomore Carles Pons (No. 4) earned his seventh consecutive singles triumph with a 6-3, 6-4 decision over SIUE’s Carlos Sanchez. Reserves Emilio Piriz (No. 5) and Parul Verma (No. 6) stepped in to the starting line-up Saturday and also came away victorious.

“We have a good bit of momentum heading into the final week of the OVC regular season,” EKU head coach Rob Oertel said. “I know our guys are looking forward to a rematch [from last year’s OVC championship match] with Jacksonville State.”

Eastern Kentucky concludes the regular season next weekend at Lee University (April 9) and Jacksonville State (April 10).
