EDWARDSVILLE, Ill. – Eastern Kentucky’s women’s basketball team will end its three-game, six-day road trip on Monday afternoon at Southern Illinois University Edwardsville. Tip-off is scheduled for 2 p.m. ET.
In the summer of 2008, the Ohio Valley Conference announced the addition of Southern Illinois Edwardsville to the league. SIUE is transitioning from Division II to Division I. SIU Edwardsville’s teams will begin regular season competition in the conference in 2011-12 and will be eligible for postseason competition in 2012-13.
Monday will mark the third meeting between Eastern Kentucky (4-12, 1-7 OVC) and SIU Edwardsville. The two teams have each won on their home court. SIUE handed the Lady Colonels a 54-44 loss the last time the teams met in Edwardsville (Jan. 19, 2009).
In their last game, the Lady Colonels lost 74-58 to Southeast Missouri on Saturday. The Redhawks led wire-to-wire.
Brittany Coles led Eastern with 13 points.
Nadia Mossong posted her second straight double-double, finishing with 10 points and 10 rebounds.
SIU Edwardsville is 4-12 this season. The Cougars are 2-3 in their five games against OVC teams. SIUE snapped an eight-game losing streak by beating South Dakota and Tennessee State in its last two outings.
Freshman Jazmin Hill, a 5-foot-5 guard, leads the team in scoring with an average of 13.2 points per game. Raven Berry, a 6-foot-1 sophomore, is second on the team in scoring (11.4 ppg) and leads the team in rebounding (7.6 rpg). Berry had eight points and four rebounds in last year’s game with EKU.
As a team, SIU Edwardsville has been out-scored by 10.6 points per game this season (70.7 to 60.1). The Cougars have allowed their opponents to shoot 46 percent from the field and 33 percent from three-point range.
In their last game, a 70-60 win over Tennessee State, the Cougars took advantage of 15 offensive rebounds to out-score the Tigers 16-6 in second chance points. SIUE also out-scored TSU by 10 at the free throw line. Berry finished with 20 points and 10 rebounds.
