RICHMOND, Ky. – The Eastern Kentucky University football team looks to pick up its first OVC win of the year Saturday afternoon at Eastern Illinois. Game time is set for 2:30 p.m. ET.
Eastern Kentucky (1-3, 0-1 OVC) is coming off a disappointing 23-17 loss at Austin Peay on Sept. 24. The Colonels have now dropped five of their last six OVC road games. However, EKU has rebounded well following ‘open’ weeks in recent years. The Colonels are 10-2 following ‘open’ weeks since 2000, which includes a 58-7 win over Kentucky State last season.
Eastern Illinois (1-4, 0-3) head coach Bob Spoo is retiring at the end of the season. This is the 25th year that Spoo has been on the sidelines at EIU. Spoo has led the Panthers to nine FCS playoff appearances in his tenure. Eastern Illinois’ offense has put up at least 20 points in 10 consecutive games, but the defense has allowed an average of 32 points per game this season.
The Colonels have won four straight in the series while averaging almost 30 points per game in that stretch. One year ago, EKU ran for a season-high 287 yards in the 35-7 victory. Quarterback #T.J. Pryor# finished with 78 yards on the ground and three touchdowns.
