RICHMOND, Ky. – The Eastern Kentucky University men’s basketball team won its 14th consecutive home opener on Saturday night, as the Colonels erupted for their first triple-digit scoring output since 2009 in a 107-43 win over Brescia in McBrayer Arena.
EKU (4-5) scored 17 unanswered points early in the first half to take a lead it would never relinquish. The Colonels shot a season-best 62 percent (37-of-60) from the field and 64 percent (16-of-25) from three-point range in the victory.
Freshman
Eric Stutz led the way for EKU with a career-high 22 points and eight rebounds. Seniors
Jeff Allgood (15),
Joshua Jones (14) and
Jaron Jones (13) as well as junior
Mike DiNunno (14) also reached double figures. Eleven different Colonels entered the scoring column in the win.
Myron Christian paced Brescia with 10 points on 2-of-3 shooting from three-point range.
After falling behind 3-0 to begin the game, EKU was sparked by a pair of Joshua Jones three-pointers and exploded on a 17-0 run to take a commanding lead at the initial media timeout. The Colonels did not look back, continuing to push the tempo on offense and defense, and another Jones three-pointer, this one at the halftime buzzer, sent the home team into the locker room ahead, 51-26.
EKU scored the first 10 points of the second half and cruised the rest of the way.
This was the first-ever meeting between EKU and Brescia.
EKU returns to action on Tuesday, Dec. 6 when the Colonels host North Carolina Central at 8 p.m.
