With three games left in the regular season the Lady Colonels (6-18, 3-12 OVC) remain in the hunt for one of the eight spots in the OVC tournament. EKU is currently ninth, one game behind eighth place Murray State.

The Lady Colonels and Eagles will meet for the 80th time on Saturday. Eastern Kentucky holds a slim 40-39 margin in the all-time series. Morehead State has won eight of the last nine meetings.

In EKU’s last game, the Lady Colonels lost to Eastern Illinois, 78-57, on Saturday at McBrayer Arena. EIU shot 48 percent from the field and out-rebounded Eastern Kentucky by 14. Freshman Marie Carpenter led EKU with 18 points. Sophomore Alex Jones recorded her 15th career double-double, finishing with 16 points and 11 rebounds.

In her last two games, Carpenter has averaged 23.5 points, made 49 percent of her shots from the field, including 50 percent from three-point range and knocked down 80 percent at the free throw line.

The last time Morehead State and Eastern Kentucky squared off, EKU led by eight at halftime and had a seven-point lead with 10 minutes left in the game, but only scored six points the rest of the way and lost 69-56 to the Eagles on Jan. 22.

Carpenter led the Lady Colonels with a game-high 23 points. Ashar Harris had 12 points and 16 rebounds for Morehead State. Courtney Lumpkin scored 22 and Chynna Bozeman added 18. MSU out-rebounded Eastern 46-32.

Morehead State enters Saturday’s game 18-8 overall and 11-4 in the OVC. However, the Eagles have lost two of their last three games. Morehead State is coming off an 89-40 victory over Southeast Missouri State. Before that game, MSU lost at Tennessee Tech and at home to Eastern Illinois.

Bozeman leads the team, and the Ohio Valley Conference, in scoring (20 ppg). She also contributes 3.3 assists per game, eighth best in the conference. Harris, a 5-foot-11 sophomore forward, is second in the nation with 17 double-doubles this season. She leads the OVC with an average of 11.8 rebounds per game and scored 14.2 points per contest.

As a team, Morehead State averages 26 three-point attempts per game. The Eagles have made just 29 percent from deep, but they have out-scored their opponents by 261 points from behind the arc. MSU has also out-scored its opponents by 36 points at the free throw line. Morehead State opponents are averaging 21 turnovers per game this year and the Eagles average a league-best 11 steals per game.
