A 9-0 Lady Colonel run midway through the first half allowed Eastern to turn a 21-21 tie into a 30-21 advantage with 5:26 showing on the clock. Coles scored five of the nine points during the run. After EKU took its nine-point lead Morehead State ended the half on an 11-4 run to cut lead down to two, 34-32, at halftime.
Courtney Lumpkin’s three-pointer 17 seconds into the second half completed the MSU comeback. A jumper by Harris with 18:02 left in the game gave the Eagles the lead for good, began a streak of eight straight and started a 15-1 Morehead State run that put the game out of reach. Lumpkin’s lay-up with 13:45 remaining capped the run and gave MSU its largest lead of 13 points, 50-37.
Six unanswered got the Lady Colonels within four, 64-60, with 4:21 to go, but that is as close as the home squad would get.
The Lady Colonels will conclude their regular season with a two-game road trip beginning at Tennessee-Martin on Thursday. Tip-off is scheduled for 8:30 p.m. ET.
