Box Score Game 3

RICHMOND, Ky.
– The Jacksonville State Gamecocks used an Amanda Crow grand slam to defeat the Eastern Kentucky University softball team Sunday afternoon at Gertrude Hood Field, 4-2. With the win, JSU (14-6, 3-0 OVC) completed the three-game sweep over the Colonels (13-9, 0-3).

The first four batters proved to be the difference in the game. Jacksonville State opened the contest with a walk, seeing-eye single up the middle and bloop single to center to load the bases. Crow then launched a 1-2 pitch over the left-center fence to put the Gamecocks ahead, 4-0.

Crow finished with three home runs and seven RBIs in the series.

Eastern Kentucky finally answered in the fourth inning when senior Shyenne Hussey belted an RBI double to right center. The Colonels had runners on second and third with nobody out following Hussey’s double, but were unable to plate any more runs.

EKU added its only other run in the final frame when sophomore Raquel Howes tallied her second solo home run of the series.

JSU starting pitcher Tiffany Harbin (9-4) won each of the three games this weekend. Harbin pitched all seven innings Sunday, striking out six Colonel batters and walking none in the series finale.

Eastern’s Noe Esperas (5-2) was charged with the loss as she allowed eight hits to go along with the four runs in seven innings.

Eastern Kentucky is back in action next Saturday, March 19 at Austin Peay.
