Box Scores Game 1 I Game 2
COOKEVILLE, Tenn. – Junior
Diane Gallagher broke the Eastern Kentucky record for career stolen bases and led the Colonels to a doubleheader split at Tennessee Tech on Tuesday. The Golden Eagles won the first game 4-3 before EKU took the second game 3-2.
Gallagher tied Chanze Patterson’s record of 70 steals, set from 2005 to 2008, last weekend during Eastern’s three-game sweep of Austin Peay. After a two-out single in the top of the sixth inning of today’s second game Gallagher broke the mark by stealing second base. Moments later she added her 72nd career steal when she swiped third base.
Eastern (17-10, 4-4 OVC) fell behind 1-0 in game two of the doubleheader. A lead-off home run in the fourth by
Shyenne Hussey tied the score.
Ashley Dollins scored on an error later in the inning to give EKU a 2-1 lead. Tennessee Tech (13-11, 4-4 OVC) tied the score in the bottom half of the inning but the Colonels took the lead for good in the fifth on an RBI single by
Cassi Gibson.
Kristin Perry (5-4) picked up the win in the circle. She walked 10 batters, but only allowed three hits and struck out seven in seven innings of work. Gallagher finished 3-for-4 with a run to go along with her record breaking steals. Hussey was 2-for-3 with a run and an RBI.
In the first game, the Colonels jumped out to an early 2-0 lead in the first inning. Dollins drew a two-out, bases loaded walk to push across the first run.
Larkyn Wood followed with an RBI single.
After Tech tied the score 2-2 in the third, EKU went back on top in the fourth on Dollins’ lead-off solo home run. The game moved into the seventh tied at 3-3. The Colonels went down in order in the top half of the inning. With one out and two on in the bottom half, Megan Pearson singled to left field to drive in the winning run.
Dollins finished 1-for-1 with two walks a run and two RBIs.
The Colonels will play their next five games at home beginning with a doubleheader on Saturday against Tennessee-Martin. First pitch at Gertrude Hood Field is scheduled for 1 p.m.
