RICHMOND, Ky. – Eastern Kentucky and Morehead State combined for 51 runs during an Ohio Valley Conference softball doubleheader split on Wednesday. EKU captured game one by a score of 12-10. MSU won the second game 18-11.
The Colonels move to 19-12 overall and 6-6 in OVC games. The Eagles are 10-22 this season and 4-7 against league teams.
In game one, Morehead State scored in each of the first five innings and led 10-3 heading into the bottom of the fifth. Eastern scored nine run in the next two innings to overtake the Eagles. A three-run home run by 
Ashley Dollins cut the deficit to 10-6 and began the EKU rally. The Colonels platted six runs in the bottom of the sixth to complete the comeback. 
Larkyn Wood drove in the tying run with a sacrifice fly. 
Diane Gallagher’s two-out two-run double put EKU on top.
Gallagher finished 3-for-5 with a run and two RBIs. Dollins went 3-for-4 with two runs and six RBIs. Sam Woodall and Stephanie Etter both recorded three hits for Morehead State. Amber Riddle finished 2-for-4 with a run and three RBIs.
Morehead State jumped out to a big lead in the second game as well. The Colonels rallied again, but couldn’t hold on. A pair of two-run singles by Riddle and Anna Sommer highlighted a five-run first inning for MSU. EKU closed the gap to two on a three-run home run by 
Shyenne Hussey in the bottom of the first.
The Eagles had a 6-3 lead when Eastern put up seven runs in the bottom of the fourth. Wood’s grand slam capped the inning and gave the Colonels their first lead of the game, 10-6. 
EKU led 10-7 before Morehead State scored 11 runs combined in the final two innings. The Colonels made five of their seven errors in those same two innings. A two-run home run by Rebecca Butler followed by a solo shot from Kayla Brill highlighted a six-run sixth inning for the Eagles. A two-run double by Corie Roberts began a five-run seventh inning.
Sommer finished 3-for-4 with two runs and three RBIs for MSU. Riddle and Brill had three RBIs each as well. Elizabeth Wagner was 2-for-4 with four runs scored and an RBI.
Raquel Howes had four hits in five at bats for Eastern. She scored twice and drove in two. 
Cheyanne Pounds went 3-for-5 at the plate and scored twice.
The Colonels will return to action they begin a three-game series at Tennessee State with a doubleheader on Saturday. First pitch in Nashville is scheduled for 2 p.m. ET.
