Box Scores: vs. Loyola I vs. Penn
KISSIMMEE, Fla. – Eastern Kentucky’s softball team picked up two more wins at the Rebel Games on Sunday. The Colonels (10-5) beat Loyola (Ill.) 6-5 in eight innings in their first game of the day. EKU then beat Pennsylvania 11-4.
In the first game against Loyola (3-4), the Colonels managed only two hits in the first six innings, but they had four hits and three runs in the bottom of the seventh to tie the game and send it to extra innings.
Larkyn Wood’s one-out RBI double cut the deficit to 4-2.
Melissa Costa made it a one-run game with an RBI single. With two outs
Cassi Gibson singled through the right side to drive in the tying run.
In the extra inning, each team began with a runner at second base. An RBI single by Lauren Moore in the top half put Loyola back in front. With one out and two runners on in the bottom of the eighth,
Ashley Dollins doubled down the left field line.
Shyenne Hussey scored the tying run and
Christina Ciolek came home to score the game-winner after a bad throw.
Ciolek finished 2-for-2 with three runs scored. Wood went 2-for-3. Freshman
Hannah Driver (4-1) pitched the final one and two-thirds innings. She allowed one unearned run and struck out two.
In the second game of the day against Pennsylvania (0-1), the Colonels turned a 4-2 deficit into a 9-4 lead by scoring seven runs in the fifth inning. Gibson highlighted the big inning with a two-run home run.
Wood had another big game. She got the Colonels on the board in the top of the second with a two-run home run over the left field fence. She capped the scoring for EKU with another two-run homer in the seventh. The junior finished 4-for-4 with four RBIs and three runs scored.
Gibson, Hussey and
Raquel Howes finished with two hits each.
Kristin Perry (3-3) went the distance in the circle, allowing four runs on five hits. She walked five and struck out four.
In both games combined, Wood went 6-for-7 with four runs and five RBIs.
EKU continues play at the Rebel Games on Monday. Eastern will face Wagner at 11 a.m., and Bryant at 1 p.m.
