Box Scores: vs. Wagner I vs. Bryant
KISSIMMEE, Fla. – Eastern Kentucky extended its winning streak to five straight by beating Wagner and Bryant on Monday at the Rebel Games. The Colonels (12-5) have won five of their first six games during their Spring Break trip to the Sunshine State.
After taking down Wagner 8-0 in five innings, EKU beat Bryant 12-1 in five innings.
In the bottom of the third inning,
Raquel Howes singled with the bases loaded to drive in the first two runs of the first game against Wagner (0-7). One inning later EKU added six more to its total. Howes drove in two more with another bases loaded single in the bottom of the fourth.
Shyenne Hussey,
Ashley Dollins and
Larkyn Wood each had RBI singles in the big inning.
Howes went 3-for-3 with four RBIs.
Noelani Esperas pitched a gem. She allowed just one hit in five innings. The senior struck out seven and did not walk a batter. She held Wagner hitless after the first inning.
The Colonels wasted little time taking control in game two against Bryant (2-7).
Christina Ciolek’s two-run double got her team on the board in the top of the first and EKU led 4-1 after two innings.
Three extra-base hits keyed a six-run fourth inning that put the game away for Eastern Kentucky. Howes hit a two-run home run, Dollins drove in one with a double and Wood followed with another two-run home run that put the Colonels on top 10-1.
Howes went 2-for-2 with a run scored and four RBIs. Ciolek drove in three.
Diane Gallagher had three hits in three at bats, scored three times and had two stolen bases.
Stacye Toups (1-1) allowed three hits and one earned run in four innings. She did not walk a batter and struck out two.
In both games combined, Howes went 5-for-5, with a walk and eight RBIs. As a team, Eastern Kentucky had a .469 batting average while outscoring its two opponents 20-1.
After a day off on Tuesday, the Colonels will close out their Florida trip with games against Sacred Heart and Yale on Wednesday.
