LEXINGTON, Ky. –
Eastern Kentucky was shutout 7-0 by No. 16 Kentucky on Tuesday. The Wildcats broke open the game with four runs in the sixth inning.

After scoring on a wild pitch in the first inning, Kentucky pushed out in front 3-0 on a two-run home run in the third by Brittany Cervantes.

The Colonels (21-22) recorded their first hit of the game in the top of the fourth on a blistering two-out single up the middle by Shyenne Hussey. The Wildcats loaded the bases with two outs in the bottom half of the inning, but starter Kristin Perry induced Cervantes into a fly ball to left center to end the threat and keep EKU within striking distance.

Perry pitched out of another jam in the bottom of the fifth. With runners at first and second, the sophomore struck out three straight batters.

The Wildcats (32-10) pulled away with four runs in the sixth inning, highlighted by Alice O’Brien’s three-run home run over the right field fence.

UK starter Lauren Cumbess (6-1) retired the first 11 batters. She went the distance allowing two hits, no walks and struck out seven. Kara Dill went 3-for-3 with two runs and an RBI for Kentucky. Cervantes finished with one hit in three at bats, two runs and two driven in.

Perry (8-9) surrendered seven earned runs on 11 hits in five and one-third innings. She walked two and struck out three. Hussey finished 1-for-3 and Melissa Costa had one hit in two at bats.

The Colonels will return to conference action on Friday when they travel to play Murray State. The teams are scheduled to play a doubleheader on Friday beginning at 2 p.m. ET, and a single game on Saturday at 2 p.m. ET.
