MURRAY, Ky. – Eastern Kentucky snapped an 11-game losing streak by beating Murray State 9-8 in the series finale on Saturday.
With EKU trailing 7-6 in the top of the fifth,
Nikki Bruce hit a three-run home run over the left-center field fence to put the Colonels on top 9-7. Murray State scored a single run in the bottom of the fifth to cap the scoring.
Bruce finished 2-for-4 with a run and five RBIs.
Ashley Dollins went 4-for-4 with a run scored.
Raquel Howes hit her 11th home run of the season, finishing 2-for-4 with two runs and two RBIs.
Noe Esperas (8-8) pitched three and one-third innings of relief to earn the win. She allowed one run on two hits, walked four and struck out two.
EKU pitchers combined for 12 walks and five hit batters, allowing Murray State to score seven runs off only three hits.
The Colonels will be back in action on May 1 when they play a doubleheader at Dayton beginning at 1 p.m.
