NASHVILLE, Tenn. –
After splitting a doubleheader on Saturday, the Eastern Kentucky softball team claimed the series finale on Sunday against Tennessee State by a score of 12-7. EKU’s Raquel Howes and Ashley Dollins combined for six hits and seven RBIs.

Eastern jumped out on top quickly, scoring seven runs in the first two innings. Howes hit a two-run home run in the first and then drove in two more in the second with a single. After stealing second base, Howes scored on a single by Dollins to give EKU a 5-0 lead.

TSU got on the board in the bottom of the third on Kelly Troglin’s two-run single. However, a two-run single by Dollins in the fifth pushed the Colonels out in front 10-2. A four-run sixth by the Tigers, highlighted by Jasmine Brimm’s two-run home run, cut the deficit to four, 11-7, but the home squad never got any closer.

Howes finished 3-for-5 with a stolen base, three runs and four RBIs. Dollins also had three hits in five at bats, a stolen base, two runs and three RBIs. Freshman Christina Ciolek was 3-for-3 with a run and an RBI. Diane Gallagher had two hits, two runs and three stolen bases.
