MOREHEAD, Ky. –
Eastern Kentucky lost the series finale to Morehead State, 12-6, on Thursday in Morehead. The two teams had split a doubleheader last week in Richmond.

The Eagles (12-24, 6-9 OVC) jumped out in front quickly, scoring eight runs in the first two innings. A two-run triple by Kayla Brill got MSU on the board in the bottom of the first. A three-run home run by Kelsea Bullock highlighted a six-run second inning for Morehead State.

EKU (21-14, 8-8 OVC) got on the board in the fourth. A sacrifice fly by Cheyanne Pounds scored Larkyn Wood.

Morehead State went back in front by eight in the bottom of the fourth, but the Colonels scored five times in the fifth to stay in the game. After a bases loaded single by Ashley Dollins platted one run, Wood followed with a grand slam to make it a 9-6 game.

However, Brill answered for the Eagles with a two-run home run to key a three-run fifth inning to push her team in front by six, 12-6, and put the game away.

Wood finished 3-for-4 with two runs and four RBIs. She was the only Colonel to register more than one hit. Brill went 3-fo-3 with a run and four RBIs for Morehead State.

The Colonels will return home to host Eastern Illinois University this weekend. The two squads will play a doubleheader on Saturday at Gertrude Hood Field beginning at 1 p.m. A single game is scheduled for 1 p.m. on Sunday.
