RICHMOND, Ky. –
Eastern Kentucky’s women’s basketball team trailed by one at halftime but limited Southeast Missouri to 14 points and 13 percent shooting in the second half on its way to a 52-37 win at McBrayer Arena on Saturday.

Southeast Missouri’s 37 points broke Eastern Kentucky’s program record for fewest points allowed in an Ohio Valley Conference game.  The previous mark was 41 against Murray State on Feb. 11, 1996.

Jade Barber led EKU (7-7, 3-1 OVC) with 14 points and 10 rebounds, her fourth double-double of the season.  Junior Alex Jones grabbed nine boards and moved into 10th place on Eastern’s career rebounding list with 599.

The Lady Colonels opened the second half with an 18-6 run to take control of the game.  EKU made seven of its first nine shots from the field to start the second stanza while Southeast Missouri (4-13, 1-3 OVC) made just 2-of-16 to start.

After going scoreless in the first half, Barber scored 12 straight for the Lady Colonels at one point in the second half.  Her lay-up with 10:26 left to play capped the Eastern run and made it an 11-point game, 40-29.

The Redhawks drew within nine three times but didn’t score in the final 3:33 of the game.  SEMO went 4-for-30 in the second half and shot 22 percent for the game.  EKU made 56 percent (10-for-18) of its second half shots.

Brittany Harriel led Southeast Missouri with 11 points and 11 rebounds.  Eastern’s Raechele Gray contributed 12 points, five rebounds and five assists while committing only one turnover in 39 minutes on the court.

EKU opened the game by hitting three of its first four shots before a cold spell set in.  The Lady Colonels missed 11 straight from the field and watched the Redhawks build a nine-point lead, 17-8.  The cold spell ended as Eastern rolled off a 9-0 run to tie the game.  SEMO took a one-point lead, 23-22 into the locker room at half time.

The Lady Colonels will take to the road for a conference game at Murray State on Monday.  Tip-off in Murray, Ky., is scheduled for 8 p.m. ET.
