RICHMOND, Ky.
– The Eastern Kentucky University women’s basketball team will resume its season-opening, three-game homestand by hosting Kent State on Wednesday at McBrayer Arena. Tipoff is scheduled for 7:00 p.m.

A live radio broadcast of the game is available in the Richmond area on WEKY-AM 1340, and can be heard worldwide on EKUSports.com.  A live video broadcast of the contest is available on the OVC Digital Network.

EKU (1-0) defeated a Miami (Ohio) team picked to win the Mid-American Conference East this season, 73-63, in overtime on Friday night at McBrayer. After Miami forward Kirsten Olowinski banked in a desperation three-pointer to tie the game at the end of regulation, the Lady Colonels responded by outscoring the RedHawks 12-2 in overtime. Junior Marie Carpenter poured in 27 points in the win, while senior Jade Barber was three blocks shy of a triple-double, collecting 13 points, a career-high 21 rebounds and a career-high seven blocks.

Kent State, which was tabbed to finish fifth in the MAC East this season, opened its 2012-13 campaign with an 83-53 loss at Massachusetts on Saturday. Diamon Beckford led the Golden Flashes with 15 points in the defeat, while Trisha Krewson added 11 points.

EKU is 1-2 all-time versus Kent State, although the two teams have not met since the 1998-99 season. The Golden Flashes defeated the Lady Colonels that year, 95-56, in Louisville. EKU recorded a 65-54 win in Kent State’s only previous visit to McBrayer Arena in 1984-85.

The Lady Colonels wrap up the season-opening homestand with UNC Asheville on Saturday at 2:00 p.m., before flying to Puerto Rico for the San Juan Shootout over Thanksgiving break.
