Marie Carpenter poured in 27 points in the win, while senior
Jade Barber was three blocks shy of a triple-double, collecting 13 points, a career-high 21 rebounds and a career-high seven blocks.
Kent State, which was tabbed to finish fifth in the MAC East this season, opened its 2012-13 campaign with an 83-53 loss at Massachusetts on Saturday. Diamon Beckford led the Golden Flashes with 15 points in the defeat, while Trisha Krewson added 11 points.
EKU is 1-2 all-time versus Kent State, although the two teams have not met since the 1998-99 season. The Golden Flashes defeated the Lady Colonels that year, 95-56, in Louisville. EKU recorded a 65-54 win in Kent State’s only previous visit to McBrayer Arena in 1984-85.
The Lady Colonels wrap up the season-opening homestand with UNC Asheville on Saturday at 2:00 p.m., before flying to Puerto Rico for the San Juan Shootout over Thanksgiving break.
