Ashley Edmond recorded 13 kills and freshman
Rachel Vick added 12 kills, but Eastern Kentucky University’s volleyball team lost 3-1 at Belmont University on Friday night.
The Bruins (13-14, 9-4 OVC) won by scores of 25-15, 27-25, 18-25 and 25-20.
Edmond also had 12 digs and four blocks for the Colonels (9-16, 5-8 OVC). Vick made only three errors in 31 attempts for a .290 attack percentage.
Dena Ott posted 35 digs.
Jen Myer and Scarlet Gable both finished with 13 kills for Belmont. Hannah Miranda had 44 assists and 16 digs.
After falling by 10 in the first set, EKU overcame a large deficit in the second set in an effort to tie the match. The Colonels were down 21-14 after a kill by Alex Martin before going on a 9-1 run to take a 23-22 lead. A kill by Vick and two straight Belmont errors completed the run. However the Bruins scored the next two to reach set-point. Moments later a kill by Allison McCoy and an EKU error ended the set and put the home team on top 2-0.
Trailing 2-1 in the fourth set, the Colonels forced a 19-19 tie before Belmont used a 6-1 run to end the set, and the match.
Eastern will stay in Nashville for a match against Tennessee State at 3 p.m. on Saturday.
