RICHMOND, Ky.
– The Eastern Kentucky University women’s basketball team is off to its first 3-0 in start in five years, and the red-hot Lady Colonels will look to continue their strong play over Thanksgiving Break at the San Juan Shootout in Puerto Rico.

EKU (3-0) will face Florida State (3-0) on Friday at 2:30 p.m. ET and Wisconsin-Milwaukee (2-1) on Sunday at 12:00 p.m. at the Mario Morales Coliseum in Guaynabo, P.R.

The Lady Colonels have not started a season 4-0 since 1994-95.

EKU cruised past UNC Asheville, 67-47, last Saturday at McBrayer Arena. Senior Brittany Coles shot 6-of-7 from the field and 3-of-3 from beyond the arc to lead the Lady Colonels with 15 points. The Lexington native also added six rebounds, four assists and three steals in the win.

The Lady Colonels are the lone undefeated team left in the Ohio Valley Conference, and they lead the league in every major defensive category, including scoring defense (50.7 ppg), field goal percentage defense (31 percent) and three-point field goal percentage (19 percent).

Eastern is also the top rebounding team in the OVC so far. Seniors Jade Barber (15.7 rpg) and Alex Jones (9.0 rpg) pace the Lady Colonels in that category.

Florida State figures to be EKU’s toughest challenge so far in 2012-13. The Seminoles are also undefeated and recently routed in-state rival Florida, 98-67. FSU holds a +32.7 scoring margin over its opponents and the high-scoring Seminoles are led by Chelsea Davis (18.0 ppg) and Natasha Howard (17.0 ppg).

Milwaukee fell to Wisconsin earlier in the season, but the Panthers scored more than 80 points in both of their wins over Chicago State and Western Michigan. Ashley Green (14.7 ppg), Angela Rodriguez (12.3 ppg) and Sami Tucker (12.3 ppg) pace the Milwaukee offense.

EKU is 0-2 all-time against Florida State. The last time the two programs met was 2004-05. The Lady Colonels went on to win their most recent OVC title that year.

Sunday will mark the first-ever meeting between EKU and Milwaukee.

Following the San Juan Shootout, the Lady Colonels return to action with their first true road game of the season at Louisville on Wednesday, Nov. 28 at 7:30 p.m.
