WOODSTOCK, Ga. –
One bad inning doomed Eastern Kentucky in a 6-4 loss to Alabama State on the final day of the Phyllis Rafter Memorial hosted by Kennesaw State in Woodstock, Ga.  The Colonels (6-3) led 4-0 when ASU scored five runs in the fourth inning.

Shannon McQueen got Eastern on the board with a two-run double down the left field line in the first inning.  The Colonels added two more in the bottom of the third with back-to-back home runs by Raquel Howes and freshman Katie Tackett.  Both home runs were the second of the season for the two.

Alabama State (2-10) scored its first run in the fourth on a bases loaded RBI single by Meagan Dixon.  With the bases still juiced, Stephanie Hernandez sent the ball over the left center field fence to put ASU on top 5-4.

EKU starter Shaylon Robb (2-2) retired the first nine batters she faced, before encountering trouble in the fourth.  She allowed five earned runs in four innings, did not walk a batter and struck out six.

Tackett finished 1-for-2 with two runs scored, an RBI and a walk.  Hernandez’s only hit for ASU was the grand slam.  Bailey Patt (2-3) pitched four and one-third innings of scoreless relief to earn the win.

The Colonels will return to action when they begin a west coast trip with a doubleheader at University of California Riverside at 3 p.m. ET on March 7.
