Lady Colonels' Season Ends In OVC Quarterfinals

Eastern Kentucky University’s women’s basketball team saw its season come to an end with a 81-65 loss to Tennessee Tech University on Thursday in the quarterfinals of the 2012 Ohio Valley Conference tournament at Municipal Auditorium.

The Golden Eagles (16-15) used a 16-4 run midway through the first half to turn a three-point lead into a 15-point advantage and never looked back.  TTU shot 49 percent from the field, out-rebounded Eastern by 12 and led by as many as 20 points in the first half.

The Lady Colonels (13-16) closed the gap to 12 points, 47-35, just over three minutes into the second half but never got any closer.

Alex Jones led Eastern Kentucky with 14 points and 16 rebounds.  It was her 24th career double-double and her second in two OVC tournament games.  Newcomer Jade Barber posted her 10th double-double of the season and her second in two tourney games, finishing with 11 points and 10 rebounds.

Jala Harris led Tennessee Tech with 19 points.  Tacarra Hayes added 14 points and five assists.

Tech shot 45 percent from the field and 40 percent from three-point range.  EKU made 33 percent of its shots and 32 percent from deep.  The Golden Eagles out-rebounded Eastern by 11.
