RICHMOND, Ky. –
A week after all the other Ohio Valley Conference softball teams opened league play, Eastern Kentucky University will finally get its chance to face a conference foe on Saturday.  Southeast Missouri State comes to town for a three-game set beginning with a doubleheader at 1 p.m.

The first 50 fans in attendance at Gertrude Hood Field will received a free St. Patrick’s Day/EKU softball t-shirt.

The teams will conclude the series with a single game on Sunday at 1 p.m.  The Colonels will celebrate Women’s History Month on Sunday with special guest and EKU legends Dr. Martha Mullins, Sandy Martin and Dr. Agnes Chreitzberg.

The teams will conclude the series with a single game on Sunday at 1 p.m.

The Colonels are 6-12 this season.  The Redhawks are 9-13 overall and 2-1 in OVC play after winning the series last weekend at home against Morehead State.

Eastern was last in action on Tuesday when Dayton came to Richmond and swept a doubleheader.  The Colonel pitching staff was strong against the Flyers, but the offense struggled.  EKU pitchers held Dayton to four earned runs, a .208 batting average and struck out 15 batters.  However, the offense hit just .264 and scored only four runs while the defense made three errors.

Freshman hurler Shaylon Robb held Dayton to one earned run on four hits in seven innings while striking out six.

Overall, freshman Katie Tackett leads the team with a .345 batting average and is tied for the team lead with 15 RBIs.  Junior Raquel Howes is hitting .306 with a team-best four home runs to go along with 15 RBIs.
