RICHMOND, Ky. –
Eastern Kentucky and Southeast Missouri State split a pair of extra-inning softball games on Saturday.  EKU won the first game 3-2 in eight innings, SEMO took round two by a score of 7-5 in eight innings.

In game one, Katie Tackett’s fourth home run of the season broke a scoreless tie in the bottom of the fourth.  Tackett sent a ball over the left field fence with one on to put the Colonels on top 2-0.  SEMO had the answer in the top of the fifth.  Brittany Smith’s two-run shot to right-center tied the game at 2-2.

The score remained the same until the eighth inning.  Diane Gallagher led off the bottom half of the inning with a bunt single and then moved to second on a bunt single by Carissa Reisinger.  A third straight bunt single, this time by Raquel Howes, loaded the bases with no outs.  Tackett stepped to a the plate next and drove a 3-2 pitch into center field to plate the winning run.

Tackett finished 2-for-4 with a run and three RBIs.  Gallagher, Reisinger and Christina Ciolek all had two-hit games as well.  Shaylon Robb (3-5) earned the win after pitching three scoreless innings of relief.  She allowed two hits, no walks and struck out one.

Taylor Cowan went 2-for-3 for the Redhawks.

Larkyn Wood’s two-run home run in the bottom of the second inning in game two gave Eastern (7-13, 1-1 OVC) the early lead.  A two-run shot by Howes in the bottom of the fifth extended the Colonel lead to 5-1, but the Redhawks did not go quietly.

SEMO (10-14, 3-2 OVC) platted four runs in the top of the seventh to send the game to extra innings.  Renee Ketz had the game-tying RBI single.  Kaitlin Wallace’s two-run home run in the top of the eighth proved to be the difference.

Howes finished 2-for-3 with three RBIs and a run scored.  Wood went 3-for-4 at the plate with a run and two driven in.  Cheyenne Gipson had a 3-for-4 performance for Southeast Missouri.  Wallace finished 2-for-4 with two runs and three RBIs.

The two teams will conclude their three-game series on Sunday at 1 p.m. at Gertrude Hood Field.  The Colonels will celebrate Women’s History Month on Sunday with special guest and EKU legends Dr. Martha Mullins, Dr. Agnes Chreitzberg and Sandy Martin.
