RICHMOND, Ky. – Three unearned runs in the fourth inning led the Eastern Kentucky University softball team to a 4-2 win over Southeast Missouri State in the finale of the three-game series. The Colonels won two of three against the Redhawks.
EKU (8-13, 2-1 OVC) got on the board in the bottom of the third on an RBI single by
Diane Gallagher. With two outs and the bases loaded with Colonels in the bottom of the fourth, the SEMO center fielder misplayed a fly ball allowing all three runners to score for a 4-0 lead.
The Redhawks (10-15, 3-3 OVC) got one back in the top of the fifth on Shelby Stein’s lead-off home run. Xia Wilson’s RBI single in the top of the sixth made it a two-run game, but that is as close as Southeast would get.
Katie Tackett had two of EKU’s five hits.
Lauren Mitchell scored twice. Four different Redhawks recorded one hit each.
Leanna Pittsenbarger (5-6) started and tossed 4.1 innings. She allowed one run on three hits and walked two.
Shaylon Robb pitched the final 2.2 innings to earn her first career save. She allowed one run on one hit, walked one and struck out one.
Alora Marble (5-7) suffered the loss despite allowing only one earned run on five hits. She walked one and struck out three.
The Colonels continue OVC play on Wednesday when they travel to face rival Morehead State. The doubleheader is scheduled to begin at 1 p.m.
