JACKSONVILLE, Ala. –
Very little was settled when third place Eastern Kentucky and second place Jacksonville State played a softball doubleheader on Saturday.  Each team won a game and will have to wait until Sunday to see who takes the series.

The Gamecocks (13-16, 8-2 OVC) won game one 5-4 in eight innings.  The Colonels (12-14, 5-2 OVC) took the second game by a score of 8-4.

In game two, the Eastern scored first.  With the bases loaded and two outs in the top of the third, Shannon McQueen singled up the middle to score a pair of runs.  McQueen added a run to the EKU lead in the top of the fifth with an RBI on a sacrifice fly.

Kaycee Crow’s solo home run with two out in the bottom half of the fifth got Jacksonville State on the board.  The Gamecocks got within 3-2 when Shelby Holley scored on a wild pitch later in the inning.

Eastern Kentucky loaded the bases with no outs in the sixth.  Melissa Costa then scored on a fielding error.  A ground out by Carissa Reisinger drove in another run for a 5-1 lead.  After the second out was recorded, Katie Tackett singled to right-center to drive in two more runs and complete the four-run inning.

A two-out, two-run double by Crow in the bottom of the sixth cut the lead to 7-4.  Diane Gallagher’s RBI single in the seventh pushed the lead back to four.

Gallagher finished 2-for-5 with two runs scored and an RBI.  Christina Ciolek went 2-for-4 with two runs scored.  Lauren Mitchell was 2-for-3 and scored a run.  McQueen drove in three while finishing 1-for-3 at the plate.

Shaylon Robb (5-7) pitched a complete game.  She allowed four earned runs on nine hits.

Crow went 2-for-4 with a run scored and three RBIs for JSU.

In game one, Raquel Howes got Eastern on the board with a solo home run to lead off the top of the fourth.  It was her seventh homer of the season.  After JSU tied the score in the bottom half of the inning, the Colonels went up 3-1 in the top of the fifth on a two-run double to left-center by Reisinger.

EKU carried that lead into the bottom of the seventh.  After a lead-off single by Abbey Stepp, Sara Borders followed with a two-run home run over the center field fence to tie the game.

Tackett led off the eighth inning with a solo home run to put the Colonels back on top, but they could not hold the lead.  With two outs in the bottom of the eighth, Hayden Crawford singled up the middle and Borders followed with a double to put runners on second and third.  Crow’s single into right-center platted both runs and gave the Gamecocks the win.

Gallagher finished 2-for-4 with a run and a stolen base.  Reisinger went 1-for-3 with two RBIs.  Leanna Pittsenbarger allowed three earned runs over six and one-third innings.  She walked four and struck out six.  Robb suffered the loss after giving up two runs on three hits in one and one-third innings of relief work.

Borders went 4-for-4 with two runs and two RBIs for the Gamecocks.  Crow’s only hit in five at bats was the game-winning hit.

The two teams will conclude their three-game series with a single game on Sunday.  First pitch is scheduled for 2 p.m. ET.
