RICHMOND, Ky. –
The Eastern Kentucky University softball team will kick off Autism Awareness Month by doing its part to raise awareness for the fight against autism on Sunday.  EKU softball’s “Autism Awareness Day” will be held in conjunction with the Colonels’ series finale against Austin Peay.

The two teams will play a doubleheader on Saturday beginning at 1 p.m.  Sunday’s single game is set to start at 1 p.m. as well.

Special guests EKU President Dr. Doug Whitlock and his wife Joanne will throw out the ceremonial first pitch.  The Colonels will wear special autism awareness jerseys on Sunday.

The EKU softball team will also hold a silent auction.  Auction items will be on display during Saturday and Sunday’s games.  Proceeds from the auction will go to the Robert Douglas Whitlock Jr. Fund For Autism.

Among the items up for auction are the autism awareness jerseys that the players will wear.  Other auction items include a golf bag, golfing at Canewood, an EKU quilt, EKU baskets, Outback Steakhouse gift certificates, Kerns Softball Camp attendance, an official MLB umpire jersey, an official MLB line-up card and MLB autographs.

Fans attending the game will receive an autism EKU softball bracelet.
