RICHMOND, Ky. – Seven members of the Eastern Kentucky University softball team will return to their home state of California for a seven-game swing this week, beginning Wednesday with a doubleheader at the University of California Riverside.
Wednesday’s doubleheader is scheduled to begin at 3 p.m. ET. On Thursday the Colonels will begin play at the Long Beach State Invitational with games against North Carolina and Long Beach. EKU will face UNLV and UCLA on Friday before wrapping up play against Pittsburgh on Saturday.
Eastern Kentucky begins its trip to the Golden State with a 6-3 record. Riverside is 7-11 with two games on its schedule for today.
The Long Beach Invitational features games against two top-25 ranked teams, No. 17 UCLA (14-6) and No. 24 North Carolina (14-5). The Colonels defeated No. 5 Missouri 6-5 in 10 innings earlier this season.
Junior newcomer
Carissa Reisinger leads the team with a .382 batting average and is tied for the team lead with eight runs scored. Freshman, and Murrieta, Calif. native
Katie Tackett leads the team with nine RBIs, is tied for the team lead with two home runs and is second with a .345 batting average.
A pair of freshmen have led EKU in the circle.
Leanna Pittsenbarger is 4-1 with a 1.44 ERA. She was selected as the Ohio Valley Conference Co-Pitcher of the Week on February 27.
Shaylon Robb earned OVC Pitcher of the Week honors on February 20.
