RICHMOND, Ky. –
Despite jumping out to a 2-0 lead, the Eastern Kentucky softball team lost the series finale to Austin Peay, 3-2, on Sunday.  The Lady Govs won two of the three games in the weekend series.

Freshman Katie Tackett wasted little time staking the Colonels (15-18, 7-5 OVC) to an early lead.  With two outs and one on in the bottom of the first, Tackett smashed a pitch over the left field fence for her eighth home run of the season.

Austin Peay (12-17, 6-9 OVC) got on the board in the top of the third inning with a sacrifice fly by Paige Neely.  Lauren deCastro gave the Lady Govs the lead with a two-run home run in the fifth.  It was her fifth homer of the season.

The first two EKU batters reached base in the fifth, but the Colonels failed to score.  Eastern loaded the bases with one out in the sixth and failed to score again.

Raquel Howes finished 3-for-4 with a run for Eastern Kentucky.  Leanna Pittsenbarger (6-8) went the distance in the circle, allowing three runs on seven hits.  She walked one and struck out seven.

deCastro finished 2-for-4 with a run and two RBIs for the Lady Govs.  Lauren Bradley went 2-for-2 with a run scored.  Morgan Brewer (6-7) earned the win after allowing two runs on eight hits over seven innings.  She walked one and struck out four.

Eastern Kentucky will host Tennessee Tech for a doubleheader on Wednesday.  First pitch is scheduled for 2 p.m.
