EDWARDSVILLE, Ill. – Junior 
Raquel Howes hit two home runs in Eastern Kentucky University’s 6-1 victory over Southern Illinois Edwardsville on Saturday.  Game two of the doubleheader was postponed after the first inning due to lightning.
Larkyn Wood’s solo home run to lead off the second inning of the first game got EKU (25-25, 14-10 OVC) on the board.  It was her eighth of the season.  Raquel Howes hit a solo home run in the third.  
Lauren Mitchell’s RBI on a ground out made it 3-0 in the fourth.
Howes’ second home run of the game, and 16th of the season, extended the Colonel advantage to 4-1 in the fifth inning.  The junior has already broken the school record for home runs in a season and homers in a career this season.  She finished 3-for-4 with two runs and two RBIs.
Wood was 2-for-4 with a run and two driven in.  
Leanna Pittsenbarger (14-12) started and limited SIU Edwardsville to one run on seven hits in seven innings.  She did not walk a batter and struck out one.
Rachel Coonrod went 2-for-2 with an RBI for SIU Edwardsville (20-27, 10-14 OVC).
The Colonels and Cougars will conclude game two beginning at 1:00 p.m. CT on Sunday.  Game three of the series will follow.
