MARTIN, Tenn. – Eastern Kentucky University’s softball season came to an end with a 9-0 loss to Jacksonville State University in five innings on the second day of the 2012 Ohio Valley Conference tournament.
The fifth seeded Colonels conclude their 2012 season with a 27-30 record. The third seeded Gamecocks move to 27-27 overall.
Jacksonville State broke a scoreless tie in the top of the fourth inning. With two outs and two on, Hayden Crawford singled to center for a 1-0 Gamecock lead.
JSU pulled away in the fifth, scoring nine runs with two outs in the inning. A two-out double down the left field line by Kaycee Crow got it started. Shelby Holley followed with a RBI single to left. Kristin Graham drove in a pair with a double to right center. With the bases loaded, the final three runs of the inning came home on a walk, a hit batter and a wild pitch.
Senior
Diane Gallagher went 2-for-2 at the plate, coming up one hit short of tying Eastern’s all-time hits record.
Leanna Pittsenbarger (15-16) started and broke the school mark with her 43rd appearance of the season. She allowed five runs, four of which were earned, in four and two-thirds innings. The freshman walked two and struck out four.
Nine different Gamecocks had one hit each. Graham finished 1-for-2 with two runs scored and two driven in. Tiffany Harbin (16-10) earned the win after allowing four hits in five shutout innings. She did not walk a batter and struck out four.
