MARTIN, Tenn. –
Eastern Kentucky University’s softball season came to an end with a 9-0 loss to Jacksonville State University in five innings on the second day of the 2012 Ohio Valley Conference tournament.

The fifth seeded Colonels conclude their 2012 season with a 27-30 record.  The third seeded Gamecocks move to 27-27 overall.

Jacksonville State broke a scoreless tie in the top of the fourth inning.  With two outs and two on, Hayden Crawford singled to center for a 1-0 Gamecock lead.

JSU pulled away in the fifth, scoring nine runs with two outs in the inning.  A two-out double down the left field line by Kaycee Crow got it started.  Shelby Holley followed with a RBI single to left.  Kristin Graham drove in a pair with a double to right center.  With the bases loaded, the final three runs of the inning came home on a walk, a hit batter and a wild pitch.

Senior Diane Gallagher went 2-for-2 at the plate, coming up one hit short of tying Eastern’s all-time hits record.  Leanna Pittsenbarger (15-16) started and broke the school mark with her 43rd appearance of the season.  She allowed five runs, four of which were earned, in four and two-thirds innings.  The freshman walked two and struck out four.

Nine different Gamecocks had one hit each.  Graham finished 1-for-2 with two runs scored and two driven in.  Tiffany Harbin (16-10) earned the win after allowing four hits in five shutout innings.  She did not walk a batter and struck out four.
