BRENTWOOD, Tenn. – Punter
Jordan Berry was named the adidas OVC Specialist of the Week following his performance in the Eastern Kentucky University football team's 31-7 win at Southeast Missouri on Saturday.
Berry averaged 59.3 yards on three punts and scored his first collegiate touchdown as Eastern rolled to its third straight victory. The senior's first punt was a 76-yarder in the first quarter that was just two yards shy of the EKU single-game record. That punt was also his second punt of at least 75 yards this season.
In the second quarter, Berry was the holder as EKU lined up for a 42-yard field goal attempt. He took the snap and ran 25 yards untouched for a touchdown that put the Colonels up, 24-0.
The Colonels currently rank first in the Ohio Valley Conference and fourth nationally (FCS) in net punting at 40.5 yards.
The other OVC weekly award winners were Eastern Illinois quarterback Jimmy Garoppolo (Offensive), Jacksonville State defensive back Rashod Byers (Defensive) and Eastern Illinois wide receiver Jeff LePak (Newcomer).
Berry was also named a College Football Performance Awards (CFPA) Punter Performer of the Week for his efforts.
Eastern Kentucky (5-3, 3-1 OVC) is back in action next Saturday, Nov. 2 with a home game against Tennessee State. Game time is set for 1 p.m.
